Happy New Year everyone! How are you all doing? Are you staying warm this winter so far? It’s a continuous challenge, isn’t it? We all must layer up wisely and constantly to protect ourselves from the cold and stay healthy. Fortunately, the Buff DryFlx+ hat and neckwear are perfect to help us with staying warm, cozy, and comfy so we can run, bike, and walk longer and stronger all season.

Every winter I am reminded how vulnerable we are to the cold, especially our extremities: our head, neck, ears, face, etc. Gloves and boots are easy to remember but we must also protect ourselves where we will feel the cold and wind the most (at the top).

I was SO delighted to discover the BuffUSA hat and neckwear with reflective stripes for added safety! Being seen is very important to stay safe. It manages moisture very well, keeps sweat away, and is very breathable, easy to breathe through the scarf.

It’s seamless so no funny stripes left on your head from your hat or lines on your neck after wearing. It’s extremely comfortable and lightweight. We really don’t even notice it’s there unless we adjust or move it.

As an asthmatic, I am sensitive to cold and wind so it’s important for me to keep my nose and mouth covered more than the average person. The neckwear worked very well in that capacity to keep me covered and relaxed so I can breathe easier. The hat also kept my head warm.

The texture is different, you will notice with the scarf, feels a little more contoured than some but I like it. The thickness is adequate to protect the neck area as well as nose/mouth/face.

The design is ergonomic, it fits your face well. And for someone with big ears and a large nose like me, that’s helpful.

The scarf layers well under the hat (that’s my personal preference). You can do the opposite too of course if you want easy access to the scarf at all times.

One tiny issue I discovered was that you want to make sure you pull the hat down all the way over both ears (usually) especially if it’s cold. A few times I didn’t do this and I needed to cover one ear better if I could feel an ear wasn’t covered. Sometimes when you adjust the scarf it also moves the hat slightly if you layer them so be aware of that to keep ears warm.

In extreme cold (say under 20-25 or so), you may want to layer with an extra buff underneath (I tried this layering on top and on bottom and both work well). This particular neckwear might be slightly looser than you are used to but it allows for easy stretch and adjustment on the fly when you are running/walking/biking. If you layer with another buff, maybe have a tighter buff underneath and this one on top. that seemed ideal for me.

If the temperature is in the 30s or above, this hat/neckwear is perfect and handles it well. I stayed warm at all times and didn’t really have any issues with a lack of comfort or warmth at all.

Even with temperatures in the 40s, remember there is windchill, so for warmer days like today here (maybe was 45 degrees when we ran but felt like in 30s). The Buff headwear helps wonderfully in this temperature range as well. No sweat in my eyes, no snow accumulating either. It wicks all the snow and sweat away, keeping us dry, warm, and comfortable.

Anecdotally, I think the hat and headwear makes us want to smile (especially on the prairie) more because it seems to increase happiness and relaxation when it’s cold and windy. Try it for yourself and see!
