Can you believe it’s almost May? Time flies, especially with warmer sunnier spring weather. What will we do in May? What can we do that would be healthy and fun? We could run-streak. What does this mean?
A runstreak is running a mile or more daily on consecutive days. Some of us combine it with walking (run-walk or run-walk-run we call it). If you’re in recovery mode, try a walking streak, simply walking a mile or more daily.
Log it into Strava, a wonderful platform that connects to combine your running, walking, and biking workouts. I’ve been a Strava member since February 2015, more than 4 years. It’s a seamless platform that allows us to sync our workouts through Garmin or Apple or other devices. We can connect with others worldwide and see where and how far they ran, walked, or biked. Even virtual workouts are included (Zwift links wonderfully with Strava) and you can manually enter treadmill and other workouts as needed. I love that Strava allows us to connect with other runners and athletes that we ran/walked or biked with in person and virtually. That is a lot of fun.
Strava has a wonderful app even on the Apple watch so I can log the workout directly into Strava (usually I don’t even have to sync it~on rare occasions, I just have to press the sync button). Or I can run through the Strava app on my iPhone too.
Where is Strava? Here is their website: strava.com
Having a supportive group is important to all of us. The BibRave community has been that for me. My Strava friends have been that for me too. So many of you have as well, friend and family (whether you are on Strava or not). Many of us BibRavePros (BRPs) are participating in the runstreak. I am. Will you?
Rewinding a few years…five and a half years ago…I never thought I could (or should) do a runstreak. It seemed outlandish, unwise, and crazy. But guess what? If we are careful about how we handle these streaks, it can lead to major gains in fitness and health, including but not limited to running endurance and ability. We learn a great deal about ourselves if we dare to dig deep and see what we are made of, challenge ourselves when we can, and learn from challenges and adversity. Sometimes we might fail at a fitness challenge on our first try but succeed on the second or third. I had a few short runstreaks that fizzled out. But then on November 19, 2013, I began my current runstreak and it’s still going: it has dramatically improved my health, fitness, and endurance. How long will it continue? I don’t know. But at least until May 31, 2019. Can’t let my team down. Runstreakers are tight-knit group: those of you who have streaked a while know what I’m talking about. We’re family.
If you get tired and need a restful miler day like I took today, do it. It feels great. (See below photo) Slow the pace down. Be smart.
Try it, you just might enjoy it. How will we know if we don’t try? Like the sign in the picture above says, I see some “road work” in your future. You can run trails if you prefer;~D We are flexible.
So hopefully you will consider it. And come join the fun at the BibRave Strava club to get in contact with some great runners and friends, fellow challengers too. Here’s the link for your convenience: strava.com/clubs/bibrave
Fading into May…when run-streakers will play…Will you? Thanks for listening and for considering it. The more the merrier!
Alone we can do a little, together we can do much more! Do you agree? Let’s GO!
Love the “Road Work Ahead” photo!
Thanks Vanessa! Let’s streak on!
