Disclaimer: I received a Medi-Dyne/2Toms SportShield sample (roll-on and single use packets) to review as part of being a MediDyne/2Toms ambassador. You can learn more about Medi-Dyne and 2-Toms products at Medidyne.com and 2Toms.com.

Blisters and chafing are a very common problem and they can occur almost anywhere. Frequently we focus on the feet. But there are other places that require attention. And SportShield has helped me to prevent a lot of problems so I’ll let you know how.

A few months ago, I began testing SportShield (although I had been using it occasionally before the test). I really like the roll-on option for convenience. It operates just like roll-on deodorant: just roll it onto any body surface that needs preventive attention. Similar to footshield, I noticed that there are some oils included in the formulation. These are a little more noticeable when using the single use packet wipes. It is probably slightly faster to use the roll-on than the wipes. And the wipes will initially just leave your hands slightly moist from the ingredients so you will want to wash them before washing your glasses for example. (I’ve re-sequenced some things to avoid getting Sportshield on my running glasses.)

Formerly, I used to tape my chest for longer runs and we’re almost all familiar with the chafing of the inner legs/thighs. Sometimes even the waist gets chafed as the salt and sweat dig into our skin during exercise. So I stopped taping my chest because now I just use the Sportshield roll-on: it’s simple and you can apply it in seconds with the roll-on. To prevent chafing/blisters on my legs, I mainly used Sportshield on my legs (inner thighs). On longer runs (or during races), it’s quite common to have lots of skin abrasion on this pesky inner leg region. I also tested the product on my waistband area just to see what would happen.

Several benefits were apparent: one was my shirts no longer stuck to me as sweat accumulated, the sportshield provides a little bit of buffer shielding. And even with rain, there still was not any chafing in my chest.

No chafing or blisters with my legs during the entire test. No waistband issues.

The Sportshield is a great addition to the FootShield and BlisterShield family. In fact, I ran the Lincoln Half-Marathon in May using all three for the first time in one day. It was a winning combination. (I also tested it during a very cold below-freezing 10k in April and Sportshield performed well in cold conditions too.)

I tested the Sportshield daily during the test, sometimes using just one way of applying it, sometimes both. I prefer using the roll-on with my chest and the single-use packets for legs/waist. I was very impressed with both and it saves money to not have to go purchase lots of preventive or restorative tape when you might not need it in the first place.

I was slightly more impressed with the roll-on option but I highly recommend you try both and have them on hand to see which works best for you and where.

There is a slight fragrance with the Sportshield but it seemed less intense than the smell of the footshield (our dog alerted more to the footshield smell and no reaction by her to the Sportshield smell from what I can tell).

It is a gentle application, single-use with the packets (multiple uses with the roll-on). The sportshield performed very well in cold and hot conditions, rain, humidity, etc. How does it work? It creates a frictionless barrier between clothes and skin so we don’t get the chafing and blisters that can occur. Also, it doesn’t melt in hot weather and that is important (there are many products that can’t perform well in high heat/humidity).

So based on my experience, I’ve changed from being an occasional Sportshield user to being a daily preventive user. We can run and go longer and finish stronger (with less skin irritation, blisters and chafing). Try Sportshield. You’ll love it.
