Happy Move It Monday! aka “Miler Monday” for me! I’ve discovered that instead of taking Mondays off from working out (old me), I will actually run on Mondays but limit it to a mile (no more than 2). So last night it snowed so today I ran on the treadmill but not very much. Beautiful coastal Portugal, though. Can’t complain about the awesome scenery. Today: 1.54 mi on day 147 runstreak. Focusing on a mile returns also me to my roots of being a mile runner in high school and winning the men’s intramural mile at a TCU track meet.
Why? Run-streaking is difficult. Running a “recovery” miler per week conserves energy, allowing you to rest and prevents burnout/injury. It gives me the benefit of running while still keeping the distance “on a leash” to allow for longer runs the rest of the week. Also, I still try to reach my daily step goal (counting steps) as monitored by vivofit so I’m still trying to walk a lot on Mondays. Walking is still moving and complies with the goal or objective of Move It Monday: making an effort to be active on Mondays. The problems with taking Mondays off is that it can create the danger of wanting to take more days off after that (the slippery slope!). Then suddenly you’re resting too much (not working out enough) and you don’t know why. If you become a sloth, bad things happen! Don’t be a sloth! Move it and make epic things happen!
Someone introduced me to Move It Monday on Twitter (MIM is also on FB, Youtube & Pinterest) and the strategy seems to be working to counteract my desire to be really lazy and take the day off from exercise. Now I’m finding lots of other people are using the same strategy to try to start your workweek on an active note and finishing actively, making for a more-active lifestyle. You can find MoveItMonday at www.moveitmonday.org
They also help reinforce Meatless Mondays for people like me that don’t eat meat on Mondays.
Move It Monday joke: it’s the day all HEALTH breaks loose!
Have a wonderful MoveItMonday! Can you at least run and/or walk a mile today for MilerMonday? Enjoy it!
